Thank you Chesterfield Observer for reporting on the runoff standards being lowered in Chesterfield Co. Va. At last someone is doing something about the problem, I just hope its not too little too late. I am a property owner in a subdivision on the reservoir with a retention pond on my property. I have a horrible problem with algae on the pond because of high phosphorous levels. The algae thrives on the high phosphorous and use up all the oxygen, making the water unfit for wildlife except for mosquitoes. An algae bloom can spread across a pond in a day or two in hot sunny weather. The high phosphorous basically kills the pond. If we don’t pay attention our reservoir will be dead in a few years from all the high phosphorous runoff from all the lawns being fertilized and street runoff. We must limit the phosphorous running into our drinking water! People in the county and all over the state need to call their representative to the General Assembly to support the lower standards. Thank you, Kathy Rivera
